How Air Conditioning Works

This is the more complicated system on your Volkswagen Atlas, so we'll tackle it first. it all starts with the refrigerant getting pressurized by a compressor, until it takes the form of a hot gas. That gas is then chilled to the point that it becomes a liquid again. Once it passes through a valve, it's converted into a low pressure gas, which once again is chilled. At that point, it's sent through the air vents and into your cabin.

How Heating Works

This is much simpler. The hot coolant gets pulled from the radiator and into a heater core. A fan blows over that core, sending the warm air into your passenger space.
